PICK OF THE WEEK:

VIVA EL TACO

6775 E. Lake Mead Blvd. at Hollywood Boulevard in Sunrise Plaza, 702-759-0084

Choosing the right restaurant is always a tough decision. When you walk into Viva El Taco and inhale the aroma of this authentic Mexican restaurant, you will know that you made the right decision. Popular specials, served with a soda, include chicken burrito, two fish or chicken tacos, rolled tacos, ceviche tostada and taco salad. Among the breakfast items are huevos rancheros, huevos a la Mexicana and breakfast burritos including machaca and cheese, eggs and cheese with potato and bacon, and eggs and cheese with chorizo. There are more than 20 combination plates, including beef taco and cheese enchilada, chicken taco and enchilada, carne asada tacos, chile rellenos, super nachos, camarones (shrimp) a la diabla and rolled tacos with guacamole. On weekends, enjoy a bowl of menudo, that traditional Mexican dish made with selected cuts of cattle and sheep, along with lime, chopped onions, cilantro, oregano and crushed red chili peppers. Among the tortas (sandwiches) are chorizo, pork, chicken, ham or beef. There is a Super Special Monday through Thursday, such as wet burrito with a soda for $2.99 Tuesday and chicken or ground beef taco for 99 cents Wednesday. Combination plates begin at $5.95 and burritos at $2.50. Viva El Taco is open 24 hours daily. - Jack Bulavsky
