New video from an investigation into corrosion on the Gateway Arch has been uploaded to YouTube. The dizzying views offer a unique view of the stainless steel structure. It also shows how hard it is to work 630 feet above downtown St. Louis.
Last October a team of investigators rappelled down the Gateway Arch to check for structural issues. Visible stains on the structure raised worries about corrosion and stability of the 50-year-old monument.
The team from Wiss Janney Elstner Associates released their findings this April. The results of the study finds the stains to be a combination of original construction markings, accumulation of residues, and graffiti. Wiss Janney Elstner Associates says that there are no significant structural issues.
The National Parks Service has now uploaded video of the study to YouTube. The Corrosion team recorded the time they spent at the top of the national monument.
Their helmet cams offer breathtaking view of their work on the Gateway Arch and downtown St. Louis.
