Ensign gaffe keeps on giving

Sen. John Ensign's call for accountability in Congress continues to reverberate among those who find the irony just too rich to ignore.

To recap, Ensign spoke to Northern Nevada business leaders at a country club luncheon in Dayton a week ago. According to this account Wednesday in the Reno Gazette-Journal, he spoke about flaws in health care reform and how the government is to blame for the recession.

"If you don't hold us accountable, we'll do some real bad things in Washington, D.C.," he said.

Pundits and bloggers pounced on the disconnect between Ensign's remark and his acknowledgement last year of an extramarital affair and the subsequent and ongoing ethics investigations by the U.S. Senate and the Justice Department.

Last night, Ensign got this shout-out from Keith Olbermann on MSNBC.
