Findlay Automotive supports Light the Night Walk
The annual Leukemia &Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night Walk was presented at a new venue in downtown Las Vegas on Nov. 1, attracting more than 3,000 participants and raising more than $490,000 during the event, which was supported by Findlay Automotive Group.
The event, presented at the Learning Village just east of Container Park, featured illuminated lanterns each with a significant purpose. Red lanterns represented supporters of those battling lymphoma or leukemia; white lanterns represented survivors/patients; gold lanterns were carried in the memory of those who have died.
The walk covered 1½ miles and followed a remembrance ceremony under the Learning Village canopy and a program featuring Zumba on the main stage.
The event included several Findlay Automotive Group employees such as Findlay Cadillac General Manager John Saksa, Findlay Honda General Manager Scott Ramer and Findlay Automotive Group controller Bob Holder.
Ramer serves on the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s board of trustees. Saksa sponsors the annual Links Fore Leukemia golf tournament in memory of Mary Jo Findlay, wife of Findlay Automotive Group founder Pete Findlay. Holder, associated with the Findlay Group for several years, is chairman of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Southern Nevada’s board of trustees.
“I am very impressed with the LLS for several reasons,” Holder said. “Nearly 78 percent of the funds are put toward program services such as research, education and patient and community service.
Holder said the society’s local office provided nearly $315,000 in copay assistance to 174 local people in the past year.
Findlay Kia Finance Director Sarah Wilbur was honored for raising $51,000 for the society earlier this year. Her participation in the Man and the Woman of the Year campaign generated the funding for a research grant that will be used to fund a grant for pediatric and young adult blood cancer research. Campaign Manager Amanda Harris praised Findlay Automotive Group for its continued involvement with the society and lauded Zappos.
“We’re very thankful to everyone and especially Findlay Automotive Group for its continued dedication.”
The society, founded in 1949 and headquartered in White Plains, N.Y., has chapters throughout the United States and Canada. To learn more, visit www.lls.org. Patients can call the information resource center at 800-955-4572, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET Monday through Friday.
