Findlay Prep basketball team takes on Bishop Gorman HS

In what could be a prelude to a 2011 national high school basketball title, Findlay College Prep, ranked seventh nationally by ESPN Rise, will play defending state champions, Bishop Gorman High School, at 8 p.m. on Saturday at the Cox Pavilion. Prior to the main event, St. Bernard will play Army-Navy Academy at 6:15 p.m.

These high school basketball games, dubbed the BSC Challenge -- Big City Showdown, are presented by Findlay Toyota. Proceeds benefit American Heart Walk and Best Buddies of Nevada.

The Bishop Gorman High School basketball team is the No. 1 ranked team in Nevada.

"We're looking forward to the challenge of playing Findlay Prep," said Gorman Coach Grant Rice. "They're one of the best teams we'll face this year. They're fast and athletic, shoot well and play a real tough defense."

Mike Peck, coach for Findlay Prep, said, "We're looking forward to showcasing our team against the defending state champions. We try to schedule one game per year in a professional arena like the Cox Pavilion."

BCS Challenge tickets are $10 and are available through www.UNLVTickets.com and at the Cox Pavilion. Half-price ticket vouchers are available at Findlay Toyota with a test drive.

Findlay Toyota is sponsoring the BCS Challenge to showcase the area's most talented high school players.

Rick Glenn, marketing director of Findlay Toyota, explained, "We have a long-standing commitment to high school athletics. We're confident these games will be enjoyed by many. Our hope is that the best players will choose to stay in town and play for the Runnin' Rebels."
