First post-primary poll shows Angle up over Reid
June 10, 2010 - 8:46 am
The first public post-primary poll shows Sharron Angle with a potential double digit lead over incumbent Sen. Harry Reid.
The Rasmussen polling firm has the Republican challenger at 50 percent support while Reid is at 39 percent.
The analysis is here.
Further breakdowns can be found here.
While Reid's camp already is working to portray Angle as a dangerous right winger far from the mainstream, Republicans so far are shrugging off Reid's attempts to spotlight their candidate.
Angle herself has gone underground, presumably to retool and prepare for what is expected to be a torrent of attacks from Reid and surrogates.
"Still the race for now continues to be about the incumbent," according to the Rasmussen analysis. Reid "has never risen above the low 40s" in polling against likely opponents.
The survey, which was conducted on Wednesday, the day after primary balloting, carried an error margin of 4.5 percentage points. Rasmussen polled 500 likely voters by telephone.
According to Rasmussen, Reid continues to be anchored with an unfavorability rating that the new poll put at 54 percent. His campaign is working to turn that around with positive television ads it is announcing today. His positives were at 46 percent.
Angle's favorability stood at 48 percent and her unfavorables were 45 percent. Eight percent were not sure what they thought of her.
An April 27 poll by Rasmussen had Angle ahead of Reid by a 48-40 percent margin.
