Happy New Year: Sandoval’s smooth transition in big contrast with Gibbons

The Gov.-elect Brian Sandoval hasn’t event taken office yet, but you can already feel the change in the air from here to Carson City. It’s awfully early, of course, but it’s kind of refreshing. His transition is going smoothly and professionally.

It’s almost boring – certainly compared to the odd early hours of the Gibbons administration – but reassuring just the same.

Daily announcements from inside Sandoval’s transition team herald new staff and department director choices, absolutely none of which have been accompanied with even a whiff of scandal or tinge of incompetence.

At this time four years ago, Jim Gibbons was ducking more than one brewing scandal. Remember E-Treppid and Chrissy Mazzeo? What an embarrassment.

Although Gibbons had defeated Dina Titus in the election, the wheels of his administration started wobbling almost immediately. And who can forget the mysterious midnight swearing in ceremony and all the petty crap exchanged by Team Gibbo and the departing Guinn administration?

Sandoval has a big job ahead, and he’ll start taking hits shortly after he takes office and Gibbons limps off into the sunset after a single tumultuous term.

But at the risk of sounding like a political rube, Sandoval’s machine appears to be purring as the new year unfolds.
