EVENT to teach WATER SAFETY
FOR PARENTs AND CHILDREN
The city of Henderson is scheduled to host a water-safety event at 11 a.m. today at the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, 1575 Galleria Drive. The event will feature a mock rescue of a drowning person to teach parents and children about the importance of pool and water safety. For more information, visit cityofhenderson.com.
Church to host annual yard sale
Warm Springs Baptist Church, 2075 Warm Springs Road, is hosting its 11th annual yard sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
All proceeds are slated to go to youth groups at Warm Springs Baptist, operation Christmas Child and Club Christ Ministry, an organization committed to helping underprivileged youths. Admission is free to the event, which is expected to feature appliances, furniture, clothing, household and office items.
Before the actual sale, the church is hosting a preview night to view potential items and receive better deals from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Admission is $10 per family.
The church still is accepting donations between noon and 7 p.m. today and Wednesday. For more information, call 361-7070.

new EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
The Henderson Chamber of Commerce is searching for a new executive director to replace its former CEO and president, Alice Martz, who retired June 30. SEEKS BOWLERS FOR FUNDRAISER
Sign Design Theatre Company's second annual Bowl 4 Sign Design Theatre Company event is headed to Strike Zone from noon to 3 p.m. Aug. 14 at Sunset Station, 1301 W. Sunset Road.
The cost is $25 for the event, which includes two hours of bowling, shoe rental, an event T-shirt and pizza.
The proceeds go directly to the nonprofit, a youth development organization that provides programs that combine American Sign Language, dance and performing arts for children 5 to 18.

SUPER RUN STAYCATION PACKAGES ENCOURAGE LOCAL ATTENDANCE
With the upcoming Super Run Classic Car Show slated to return Sept. 22-25 on Water Street, the city of Henderson is debuting staycation packages allowing families and car lovers to check out surrounding hotels and resorts.
With a minimum two-night stay starting at $31 a night, the packages include VIP concert seating for the Friday and Saturday concerts, commemorative apparel and deals from event partners. Properties from Lake Las Vegas to Green Valley Ranch Resort are participating.

Bunco tournament to benefit
American Cancer Society
Team United is hosting its third annual Bunco Tournament to benefit the American Cancer Society Making Strides against Breast Cancer. The tournament is scheduled for 5 p.m. Aug. 26 at UnitedHealthcare, 2716 N. Tenaya Way.
Tickets are $15 for Bunco only and $25 for Bunco and dinner. The evening includes dinner (optional), entertainment and prizes. Advance registration is required, and participation is limited. Senior Energy Assistance EXPO set
FOR AUG. 13 AT CASHMAN CENTER
The Senior Energy Assistance Expo is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Cashman Center, 850 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Admission is free.
Nonprofit, government agencies and other utility representatives will be available to provide energy assistance, discuss weatherization options, provide energy education, conservation and rebate information and social services such as food bank, housing, medical and rental assistance.
