CRAFT FOR CAUSE AT GIBSON LIBRARY

The Gibson Library is inviting crafters to use their talents to help others through its Crafting for a Cause program. Volunteers can register and pick up a skein of yarn and a pattern to complete a scarf, hat or pair of gloves or mittens for men, women or children from the Gibson Library, 100 W. Lake Mead Parkway. The last day for volunteers to register is Oct. 25. Completed projects must be turned in by Nov. 8. Projects will be donated to nonprofit organizations. LITERACY PROGRAM TO START OCT. 28

The University of Nevada Cooperative Extension is set to offer a six-week parent-child interactive literacy program from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesdays Oct. 28 through Dec. 2 at the Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, 1575 Galleria Drive.

VETERANS CLUB TO FEATURE

PURPLE HEART RECIPIENT

DECORATING CONTEST slated

The city of Henderson plans to run its Commemorative Beautification Commission’s 2014 Outdoor Holiday Decorating Contest from Nov. 1 to Dec. 1. This year’s theme is “Spread the Holiday Cheer,” and judging is scheduled from 6 to 10 p.m. Dec. 8. TEACHER needs votes TO WIN $100,000 FOR SEWELL ELEMENTARy

Sewell Elementary School, 700 E. Lake Mead Drive, seeks support winning $100,000 through the Farmers Insurance Dream Big Challenge. Teacher Brenda Moynihan is one of 15 finalists in the challenge and will receive the money for the school if she receives the most votes. The contest is set to run through Nov. 30. EARLY VOTING locations identified

The city of Henderson plans general election early voting from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 23 and 24 at the Heritage Park Senior Facility, 300 S. Racetrack Road; 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Silver Springs Recreation Center, 1951 Silver Springs Parkway; and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 28 at the Henderson City Hall, 240 Water St.
