Here’s your Sherman Frederick birthday fix — enjoy

As I am taking a week off from newspaper column writing this weekend (Hey, it’s my birthday!), my many fans will no doubt have severe withdrawal symptoms.

So here’s a little Sherman R. Frederick blog wisdom to tide you over:

— If Harry Reid says “left” … go right; if he says “bottom” … go top. From a Nevada perspective (and I think most of America perspective) he’s almost always wrong. For example, consider when the old sourpuss talks about the Redskins no longer having trademarks and says “they are gone”, he has absolutely no grasp of reality. Here’s the chapter and verse for another glaring Reid error. Go ahead, take a peek.

— Remember when Obama said the Iraq was over and most U.S. troops “will definitely be home for the holidays”? Those were the days, no?

— Sen. Reid tweeted today this gem: “The only thing I want to hear from Iraq war architects is an apology.” An apology? Jeez, senator, can Nevada get about a thousand for those from you?

— Stand by for some fireworks on the expanding IRS scandal on Tuesday. Then House Oversight Chairman Darrell Issa plans to call a former IRS counsel (now a White House attorney) to testifies about the “lost” e-mail of Lois Lerner. Should be interesting.

— I am not sure I have a fixed opinion on the appropriateness on the name of the Washington Redskins — other than the notion that my U.S. Senator gets the strangest bees in his bonnet (he’s on the warpath about the”R-word” but can’t say a negative blessed thing about the lost IRS e-mails) — but if Harry Reid is worked up about the Washington NFL team, he’s going to fly into orbit when he reads about Red Mesa High School, the mascot of which is the “Redskins”. Imagine all those impressionable youths perpetuating the slur “Redskins”. Oh, BTW, this high school is on the Navajo rez and includes almost 100% Navajo students. Please tell us what to do, oh Great White Father?

— If you want to wish me a happy birthday (63 years young and feeling back up to snuff after three years of not-so-fun hospital stuff — please e-mail me at ShermFrederick@LoisLerner.gov. I’ll get it, I’m sure.
