Hidden Cash finally comes to Las Vegas, kind of

Las Vegans may finally have a chance to get in on the hidden cash craze.

An anonymous Twitter user started a social media frenzy last week after hiding envelopes of cash throughout San Francisco and tweeting clues to their whereabouts. The person claimed to have made his money in real estate and said he hopes the people who found the cash would pay it forward.

As @HiddenCash started hitting cities outside of the Bay Area, Las Vegas residents started wondering when a bit of green would come to Sin City.

On Tuesday, we got our answer — or at least an answer — Twitter user @HiddenCashVegas dropped his or her first clue: “Sit, and turn the tables on the wet-nature before you. The cash might seem a bit ‘under handed’ Duck if you hear the ‘Creeking’ ENJOY!”

The anonymous person behind this account doesn’t claim to be the mastermind behind the original, though — there’s no word yet on whether boatloads of free money will be streaming into the city anytime soon.

“I don’t have the kind of $$ @HiddenCash does. Just trying to pay forward what I can. Have fun, and pay it forward if you can!” the person tweeted.

The tweeter reiterated that in a direct message to @reviewjournal.

“I’m not rich,” he (or she) said. “Just paying forward what I can.”

@HiddenCashVegas also said in a tweet that the radius for the cash drops will be all over the city, “just will depend on where I am when the wild hair hits me.”

When no one had found the cash half an hour after the first clue was tweeted, a second one was given: “CLUE 2: Keep your search “HEADS UP.” SIT and be UNDERHANDED.”

A few minutes after that, at 1:19 p.m., Twitter user Heather Powell tweeted a photo of herself with an envelope of cash standing by the Wetlands Park sign. “Winner winner chicken dinner,” she said.

Powell said in follow-up tweets that she had found $40 and that it’s now her turn to pay it forward.

@HiddenCashVegas didn’t tell the RJ how long he’s planning to keep the scavenger hunts going.
