Hillary returning to Southern Nevada next week

WASHINGTON — Hillary Clinton is returning to Southern Nevada next week, the latest announced visit by a presidential contender looking to build support in the early caucus state.

A Clinton campaign spokesman said the Democratic candidate will visit Las Vegas Aug. 18, with details to be announced later.

Clinton's visit will be her third to Nevada since May 5, when she held court on immigration at Rancho High School in Las Vegas.

She was back in Las Vegas on June 18, when she spoke on immigration before the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials at the Aria.

The next day, Clinton held an event with veterans at VFW Post 9211 in Reno.

Clinton's visit comes on the heels of Republican contender Jeb Bush, who will be in Reno and North Las Vegas on Wednesday.

Another Republican, Ted Cruz, plans to speak at two events in the Las Vegas Valley on Friday. The first will be before the Republican Club of Sun City Anthem in Henderson at noon. The second will be before the Nevada chapter of Americans for Prosperity, a national organization that promotes free markets, at the Red Rock Resort at 5-6 p.m.

Ben Carson plans to attend a fundraiser for the Clark County GOP at The Innevation Center, 6795 S. Edmond St., Las Vegas, from 7 to 8 p.m. on Friday.

And five GOP hopefuls — Cruz, Carson, Carly Fiorina, Scott Walker and Ben Carson — will be in Gardnerville on Saturday for a "Basque Fry" sponsored by Attorney General Adam Laxalt.

The candidates all are drawn to Nevada by the calendar. The state caucuses Feb. 4 are the third step in the 2016 presidential campaign and the first in a Western state.
