Ice Cream Sunday slated for Sept. 29

The Providence master-planned community, Providence Master Homeowners Association and its residents will hold the annual Ice Cream Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 29. The event, which will serve as book drive for Spread the Word Nevada, will be held in Providence’s Promenade Park, 7195 Egan Crest Way, north of the I-215 and Hualapai Way.

There will be free ice cream from Meadow Gold, ice cream-eating contest, petting zoo, bounce houses, entertainment by Amazing Clowns and informational booths.

Attendees are invited to bring new and gently used books for the children’s literacy nonprofit organization, which advances early childhood literacy by placing books into the hands and homes of children within Southern Nevada’s at-risk, low- income communities. While developing a love of reading, the initiative promotes future academic achievement and self-confidence to help impact children’s lifelong success.

“Spread the Word Nevada is a great organization that opens kids’ imaginations to whole new worlds through reading and the magic of books, not just at school, but at home” said Brandon Exline, Capital Consultants Management Corporation’s community manager for the Providence Master Homeowners Association.

The Providence Master Homeowners Association has an ongoing “Fill the Bookcase” campaign for Spread the Word Nevada where donated books are added to a bookcase at events when people stop by the association’s office. Once a bookcase is full, it is given to the nonprofit and another one is started.

For information about the event, call the Providence Master Homeowners Association at 702-216-2020.

Some other Providence charitable efforts include: garage sales benefiting Goodwill of Southern Nevada, which provides education, employment and training for people with disabilities and other barriers to employment; food drive for Olive Crest, which works to prevent child abuse, treat and educate at-risk children, and preserve families; and drive to collect toiletries and nonperishable items for the United Service Organizations Inc., which lifts the spirits of U.S. troops and their families through morale-building, recreational and entertainment programs.

Providence also has developed the P.A.R.T. Campaign – Prevent Any Road Tragedy – to reduce the number of fatalities and injuries on community streets through information about how to avoid pedestrian, bicycle and motor vehicle accidents.

The local traffic safety campaign has been developed by the Providence Traffic Advisory Task Force, an effort of the Providence Master Homeowners Association in conjunction with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, city of Las Vegas Public Works, Focus Property Group, CCMC and other traffic safety advocates.

Developed by Focus Property Group, Providence is now the country’s No. 5 fastest-selling master planned community and Nevada’s No. 2 seller. The 1,200-acre community will include nearly 7,500 residences at build-out.

Inspired by the tradition of small town America, it features parks, trail systems and wide tree-lined boulevards; is near schools, shopping, dining and I-215 and U.S. Highway 95 access; and close to Nellis and Creech Air Force bases.
