In Vegas, World’s Top Game Makers Name Games of the Year

The world’s top video game makers got together at Red Rock hotel Thursday night to name the best games of 2011. I was there. It was game dorky. The winners of the Interactive Achievement Awards:

Game of the Year: Bethesda’s “The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim,” which also earned best direction; best gameplay engineering; best story and best role-playing/massively multiplayer.

Sony’s “Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception” won best art direction, animation and visual engineering. 

Valve’s “Portal 2” won best character performance, music and connectivity.

Activision’s “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3” is the action game of the year.

LucasArts’ “Star Wars: The Old Republic” won best online gameplay.

Warner Bros.’ “Batman: Arkham City” is best adventure.

Nintendo’s “Super Mario 3D Land” is best handheld.

Epic’s “Infinity Blade II” is mobile game of the year.

Sony’s “LittleBigPlanet 2” is best family game.

Microsoft’s “Orcs Must Die!” is best strategy/simulator.

Warner Bros.’ “Mortal Kombat” is fighting game of the year.

Microsoft’s “Forza Motorsport 4” is best racer.

EA’s “FIFA 12” is best sports game.

Activision’s “Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure” won outstanding innovation in gaming.

EA’s “The Sims Social” earned social networking game of the year.

Microsoft’s “Fruit Ninja Kinect” is best casual game.

Warner Bros’ “Bastion” is downloadable title of the year.

And EA’s “Battlefield 3” got bet sound design.
