KB Home offers a chance to win getaway for 2

This weekend KB Home is offering two lucky love birds a chance to fly away on a romantic getaway.

Home shoppers can visit any of the builder's 10 Las Vegas-area communities by Monday for a chance to win a $2,000 travel voucher to the destination of their choice.

The company is pricing its energy-efficient new homes in the $100,000s.

KB Home's two new communities in Southern Highlands are Oakland and Somerset at Highland Hills. They offer new floor plans from The Open series. This weekend, area home shoppers will have the opportunity to tour the decorated models.

The company has released recent studies show that an energy-efficient KB homeowner could spend as little as $85 per month on energy bills. Energy bills are kept that low thanks to the environmentally friendly features the builder includes in the home at no additional cost to the buyer.

KB Home was also recently named No. 1 green homebuilder by Calvert Investments.

KB Home builds all its new homes to strict energy-efficiency guidelines set forth by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in order to be designated as Energy Star qualified. Homes that are built to Energy Star guidelines are up to 45 percent more efficient than homes built as recently as the 1990s and reduce KB homeowners' impact on the environment while saving them money on their monthly energy bills, according to John McLaury, vice president, sales and marketing, KB Home Nevada.

"KB Home also prides itself as being an innovator among its competitors, continually looking for new ways to build its homes that benefit its homebuyers," McLaury said. "We also believe that one of the most important aspects of green building is to educate the buyer on the long-term cost savings for them personally. In today's market the consumer not only wants to have an impact on the environment, but should also understand the cost benefit to their pocketbook."

The homes at Somerset at Highland Hills are from The Open series, KB Home's new line of energy-efficient home designs featuring open, flexible spaces with an abundance of natural light.

The one- and two-story homes are priced from $149,990, and provide homeowners between 1,438 and 2,502 square feet of living space and offer as many as five bedrooms and three baths, as well as two-car garages.

Oakland at Highland Hills features two-story homes that range from 1,634 to 2,071 square feet. Homebuyers can select between three floor plans that have as many as four bedrooms, 2½ baths and a two-car garage. Prices start at $148,990.

The communities are located at 10486 Stickney Court in Las Vegas. To get there from Interstate 15 South, exit Silverado Ranch Boulevard and turn right. Head west to Decatur Boulevard and then turn left. Head south to Cactus Avenue and turn right. Go east to Lindell Road and turn right. Make an immediate right on Vicarage Way, and then left on Stickney Court to the models on left.

The Los Angeles-based company has delivered more than half a million homes for families since its founding in 1957.

KB Home was named to Fortune magazine's 2010 list of the World's Most Admired Companies for the sixth consecutive year, and ranked No. 1 for innovation among homebuilders.
