KB to hold tax refund event
KB Home will hold a Tax Refund Rewards event through April 24 at several Las Vegas Valley communities.
Homebuyers can purchase a move-in-ready KB home at a participating community, finance the purchase through KBA Mortgage LLC, and bring in their 2010 tax returns to be eligible for a credit, equal to their 2010 tax refund, up to $5,000, to spend at KB Home Studio.
In addition, homebuyers can receive up to 3 percent toward closing costs. Buyers may put this savings toward kitchen upgrades, master bath retreat or hardwood floors.
Here is a look at two of the homebuilder's communities that are offering this promotion.
KB Home's Maravilla collection is located in Mountain's Edge, a master-planned community in the southwestern valley.
Maravilla homes include as many as five bedrooms, three baths and two-car garages. The two-story homes range from 1,273 to 2,041 square feet.
All homes are designed to be open and flexible, with great rooms located toward the back of the home adjacent to the kitchen. In some plans, a loft space can be converted into an additional bedroom or utilized as a home office, study or media room.
Brookhaven is a gated community located in the northwestern part of the Las Vegas Valley. It offers five floor plans from 1,612 to 2,165 square feet. The two-story home designs include as many as five bedrooms, three baths and two-car garages.
All of the builder's Las Vegas communities have earned the Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star and NV Energy's Energy Plus certification.
Features like programmable thermostats, radiant-barrier roof lining, low-e windows and efficient heating and cooling systems keep household utility bills low, according to company officials.
A new Energy Star-qualified KB home is up to 45 percent more efficient than a home built as recently as the 1990s and an Energy Plus certified home is 15 percent more efficient than that, company officials said
KB is now providing home shoppers with an estimate of their monthly energy utility costs, which it calls the Energy Performance Guide, or EPG.
It is similar to the miles per gallon rating or MPG, which reflects an automobile's fuel efficiency and is a standard disclosure when purchasing a car.
The EPG informs homeowners and prospective buyers about the relative energy efficiency of a KB home and provides them with an estimated dollar amount for monthly electric and gas energy costs.
KB Home officials said it is the first national builder to provide such a rating for all its homes and displays the EPG in all of its model homes in Las Vegas.

The Los Angeles-based company has delivered more than half a million quality homes for families since its founding in 1957.
The builder is known for its Built to Order program, which allows homebuyers to select their upgrades, features, neighborhoods and home sites.
KB Home has been named the No. 1 Green Homebuilder in a study by Calvert Investments and the No. 1 Homebuilder on Fortune magazine's 2011 World's Most Admired Companies list.
