Labor Day lament: No jobs, no hope under Obama

As we close in on the next presidential election (which given the horrible state of the economy this Labor Day grows more important daily for the people) we're beginning to hear echoes of the themes of the campaign.

None will be louder than the one from President Obama that he was "The One" who saved the country from falling into an economic abyss. I "pulled our country back from the brink," he says.

For those inclined to agree with that statement, here's a dose of smelling salts courtesy of Byron York. The facts are stubborn things, as they say, and the facts in this case provide a logical assent to a conclusive argument against the president's position.

In other words, things are getting worse, not better. And the president's decision to put universal health care over jobs is destined to make things harder for generations to come.

Labor Day in America 2011 has become largely a national lament on joblessness and hopelessness.
