Land Rover Las Vegas’ Wheels Event takes on Death Valley
November 27, 2009 - 10:00 pm
A panoply of natural beauty and rugged geology was on the menu as participants in the latest Land Rover Las Vegas' Wheels Event tackled Death Valley.
The day commenced early on the morning of Oct. 25, with 18 vehicles departing from Land Rover Las Vegas on what would be a 12-hour round-trip tour.
Wheels Events, according to Land Rover Las Vegas marketing director Trevor Fagan, "are opportunities for Land Rover owners to take their vehicles out and get acquainted with their off-road functionality and capability."
The first leg was a three-hour trip to Beatty, which preceded a brief sojourn to the ghost town of Rhyolite, a former mining camp that boomed and busted in the early 1900s. After that it was off to Titus Canyon.
"It's a 26-mile dirt road that takes you past a ghost town (Leadfield) to a slot canyon," Fagan said, adding the canyon is so narrow that, "the passenger could reach out and touch one side of the wall and the driver could reach their hand out and touch the other side of the wall."
Next was lunch at Scotty's Castle, followed by a concluding trip to the forbidding Chloride Cliffs, which overlook Death Valley from an elevation of 5,000 feet.
Rugged mountains, colorful rock formations, petroglyphs, wildlife and rare plants made this Wheels Event one of the best ever. Test drive a Land Rover at Land Rover Las Vegas, located at 5255 W. Sahara Ave.
