Land Rovers hit Logandale trails

Las Vegas Land Rover's off-road Wheels Event didn't go quite as the dealership had planned -- it went better.
When the Bowl Trail, which the group planned to drive, was overrun by a motorcycle race, the dealership's staff and customers didn't simply pack up and go home; they went to Logandale.
The Feb. 21 trek to Logandale Trails State Park proved to be an invigorating alternative, with more than 200 miles of trails skirting the north end of the Valley of Fire State Park.
"You've got trails ranging from simple dirt roads to challenging sandstone, as well as sand dunes," said Trevor Fagan, Land Rover Las Vegas marketing director.
Participants in the 17-vehicle excursion got a primer in rock crawling as well as recovery techniques, including the proper use of a winch and tow strap to extricate stuck vehicles. They also got a lesson in sand dune driving.
The next Wheels Event, over Memorial Day weekend, will take 20 Land Rovers to Torrey, Utah, for three days of off-roading. The destination is just outside Capitol Reef National Monument and includes one the most picturesque 44-mile trails ever devised by nature: the Devil's Backbone outside of Boulder, Utah.
"The event is certain to push the limits of what the Land Rovers and their drivers can do," Fagan said.
