Legacy Little League to raffle Chevrolet vehicle

Most of us still recall the jingle from one of the most iconic commercials in U.S. automotive history. You know the one. “Baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet; they go together in the good ’ole USA.”

Utilizing a program called “Building Diamonds & Dreams,” Chevrolet is resurrecting the all-American theme by supporting youth baseball programs with equipment, instructional clinics and financial assistance. Now, Chevy is teaming with Scotts (the lawn and garden care company) to rebuild their ballparks. Chevrolet is also donating vehicles as raffle prizes.

“This is a huge help,” said Carl Cook, treasurer of Henderson’s Legacy Little League, referring to the potential ballpark renovation and the support offered by Henderson Chevrolet in the form of a $500 cash donation, equipment bags, T-shirts and the donation it procured from the manufacturer.

Henderson Chevrolet also provided Legacy Little League with 2,000 raffle tickets that will be sold for $5 a piece at all Legacy games until July 31, according to Peter Reele, the dealership’s general sales manager. All proceeds from the raffle will go to support Legacy’s baseball program, Reele added.

“This is the start of a new grassroots program for us,” Reele said. “We want to concentrate more on direct community involvement and youth baseball was the perfect fit.”

The Legacy Little League plays its home games at Pecos Legacy Park, 140 N. Pecos Road in Henderson. The league consists of approximately 20 teams with 250 children playing ball, ranging from 4- to 12-years-old. In fact, Richard Rogus, who works in Henderson Chevrolet’s parts department, has two sons, Garret and Bradon, who played on Legacy teams and now play for Green Valley High School. It was Rogus who suggested Henderson Chevrolet consider participating in the “Building Diamonds & Dreams” program, Reele said.

“We appreciate the support very much,” Cook said, extending thanks to Reele and Henderson Chevrolet on behalf of fellow board members Kelly Whittaker, president; John Stephens, vice president; and Tracy Dawahare, secretary.
