Lexus of Las Vegas Financial Service Manager Turned Temp Job Into Fulltime Career

Roy Mason’s parents always told him if he wanted to be successful, then he should dress for success.

So, while attending college in Agoura Hills, Calif., and at his mother’s urging, the young teenager answered a temp advertisement for clerical work at the local corporate branch office of Lexus.

“Every day I went to work in a suit,” Mason remembers, laughing. “How many 19 year olds do that? To spread the suits out, I borrowed some from my dad.”

Even though the job wasn’t that exciting — signing titles all day — Mason enjoyed the way Lexus treated its employees, and the opportunities for advancement were very appealing to him. He quickly moved up to his first full-time job as a lease-auction clerk in 1999 and then accepted a position in Chandler, Ariz., as a lease-retention manager.

Mason was with the Arizona Lexus service center for three years as a retention manager, orchestrating lease end options for customers whose leases were about to or did expire. This position also gave him the opportunity to work with various Lexus dealerships throughout the West Coast.

Mason’s work ethic and success rate eventually caught the attention of the director of finance with the former owner of Lexus of Las Vegas. He was flown to Las Vegas for an interview and offered a finance assistant position. His job responsibilities centered on packaging customers’ loans for banks.

As an incentive, Mason was told he could earn bonuses if he sold extended warranties over the phone.

“I got so good at it I was selling 30 extended warranties a month,” Mason says. “No one else had been doing that. After six months at Lexus, they offered me a financial manager position.”

Mason’s good fortune continued at Lexus of Las Vegas when he met his future wife, Kat, in 2005; she also was a financial manager.

The couple now work together at Lexus of Las Vegas, while raising their six children.

“I love Lexus because of its commitment to its customers and staying ahead of the curve by constantly improving every facet of its automobiles,” Mason says.

“One day I want to run my own dealership. The way to do that is putting the customer first and always giving them the best possible experience.”
