Little Greek plans to expand for sit-down service in North Las Vegas

Little Greek Bakery & Deli, 5670 Simmons St., No. 104, may be small, but it packs big flavor into each of its meals.

The restaurant is the creation of Mona Orkoulas, who makes it her mission to serve traditional and home-cooked food. She grew up eating Mediterranean food and found early success in North Dakota and South Dakota, where she operated Gyros 2 Go.

She said she hopes to see a similar response in North Las Vegas.

“It’s the only Greek deli in that area,” she said of Little Greek. “We’re still pretty new, but we have big plans. We’re going to take over the hobby shop next door to make it a sit-down restaurant in the next month or so. We’re also planning to expand the menu with more vegan options.”

For now, people can order Greek salads, gyros, hummus and other items at the grab-and-go counter. Inside there are also a couple of couches for people to sit on while waiting for their meals.

The Vegan Delight ($4.95) consists of fava bean dip with pita bread. The triangular slices of warm pita bread perfectly complement the well-seasoned dip, which is served as a breakfast spread in Egypt.

The lentils, rice and spices dish ($4.95) features a milder flavor than the dip. It, too, paired perfectly with the warm pita bread.

Other food items include the stuffed grape leaves (six for $6.99), made with ground beef, rice and spices; organic rotisserie chicken in pita ($8.99), served with sauce, tomatoes, onions and feta cheese; and the falafel slider ($1.95), served on pita bread with hummus and tomatoes.

The bakery portion of the shop offers traditional pastries, including baklava and basbousa, a Middle Eastern sweet cake.

Everything on the menu is less than $9.
