Longtime Las Vegas couple chooses Mira Villa

Longtime Las Vegas residents Al and Roma Haynes have lived in the Las Vegas area for more than 30 years. They've owned four homes here and Al Haynes, a retired elevator constructor, is able to say that a few years back he had worked in most of the high-rises on The Strip, installing their elevators. Roma Haynes attended high school in Las Vegas. To say this couple knows the area and its real estate market is an understatement.
They recently sold their single-family home in The Vistas, and within 30 days, closed on their new condominium at Mira Villa in Summerlin. They had first become interested in luxury condominium complex years ago during the community's preconstruction phase. Now under new ownership, and with the first phase completed, they decided to have another look at the property.
"We immediately fell in love with the grounds, floor plans, architecture and location," Al Haynes said. "I regularly play golf at Angel Park, and the thought of having the course literally in my back yard was alluring."
"Al and I left our initial site tour and on the drive home decided to list our house," Roma Haynes said. "There was no question that Mira Villa was where we wanted to live. Had the condominium we liked sold before our home did, we wouldn't have looked at other developments. We felt that strongly about Mira Villa.
With a bit of luck (and a strategic price), Al and Roma Haynes' 3,800-square-foot home in The Vistas sold in less than a month and they closed on their new condominium at the end of January.
"Mira Villa has all of the amenities that we had at our old home with its pool, terraces, outstanding landscaping, etc; the difference is that I don't have to spend my spare time with the upkeep," Al Haynes said. "We weighed the cost of hiring someone to maintain the pool and grounds at our old home and it was more than our homeowners association dues here, not to mention that I'd still have to manage the process. I'm looking forward to taking that time to do more of the things I love."
Despite the depressed real estate market nationwide, and more specifically in the Las Vegas area, the couple said they took advantage of an opportunity.
"This is an 'apples-to-apples' buy," Al Haynes said. "On paper our old home was worth less than it had been a few years before; but our new home at Mira Villa would have cost much more back then, too."
"It's a wash," Roma Haynes said. "At the end of February, when we move in, we'll be living in a place that we love with more time to enjoy the things that matter in life."
