Mad Mud Run set for today at Providence park

Early risers can still sign up for today's Mad Mud Run and Mudpuppy Splash for kids, and take advantage of great pricing and homes at the Providence master-planned community in northwest Las Vegas.

Developed by Focus Property Group, Providence remains among the top 10 best-selling communities in the country, according to multiple industry surveys.

The mud events for all fitness levels and home promotions are part of Providence's White Blossum Days sales promotion.

The Mad Mud Run and Mudpuppy Splash will be held at the new Knickerbocker Park, 10695 W. Dorrell Lane. The 4.5-mile adult race and obstacle course begins and ends at the park and winds through the 1,200-acre community. It and the 100-meter kids' event end with participants going through a 40-foot-long mud pit.

Registration for both events starts at
7:30 a.m. and goes through 9:30 a.m. for Mad Mud Run and 10 a.m. for Mudpuppy Splash. The races start at 10 a.m. and around 11:30 a.m. and cost $60 and $15 per person, respectively.

Fees include a T-shirt, race bib, dog tag and refreshments. A portion of proceeds benefits Spread the Word Nevada, which helps promote literacy for children. The Mudpuppy Splash is limited to the first 200 4- to 12-year-olds who register, and 4- to 6-year-olds must be accompanied by a parent through the mud pit.

The Mad Mud Run course includes a Splash Zone, low wall, belly crawl, balance beams, water wall, tire array, hay bales and finally the mud pit. The minimum age is 12 years old, and special waivers are required for those younger than 18. Male, female and co-ed teams of two and five may participate, and costumes are welcome.

Children and adults are invited to bring Super Soakers and squirt guns to douse Mad Mud Run participants with water as they go through the Splash Zone just after the race begins.

Attendees also are encouraged to donate new and gently used books for the nonprofit Spread the Word Nevada which will have a table at the event.

Other activities at the site include entertainment, booths, volleyball, soccer and park games. Awards will be given to fastest individuals and teams and best costumes.
