Main Event Update: Selbst out in 74th, Buchman eliminated in 75th

The poker unknowns continued to shine in the Main Event field at the World Series of Poker on Sunday as two notable players saw their tournament end.

Vanessa Selbst, who won her second career gold bracelet at the World Series of Poker, was eliminated from the $10,000 buy-in No Limit Hold’em World Championship, an event she seemed dominate in the early rounds.

Selbst, who had more than $1.1 million in career earnings and was considered one of the players to watch coming into the Main Event, earned a seat at the ESPN feature table for Sunday, entering the day in 69th place.

However, her chip stack took whacking early in the day and Selbst needed to battle back. Her tournament ended at the hands of Greg Merson, who pulled out a straight on the river card. Selbst finished in 73rd place, earning $88,070.

“Had a great time, cards just didn’t go my way at the end. We’ll get ‘em next year. Good luck to all my friends still in!” Selbst tweeted to her followers.

Meanwhile, Erich Buchman, one of two former November Nine members trying to become the first to reach a second final table in the World Series of Poker’s Main Event format, busted out in 74th spot, also earning $88,070.

By 4 p.m., Sam Holden of Great Britain, the last remaining member of the November Nine fraternity, was in 46th place with 1.98 million in chips. Holden finished ninth in the Main Event last year.

The field is expected to cut to 27 players by the end of play today.
