Man arrested after hiding heroin under kids’ bed

Danielson, CT — A man in Thompson is accused of selling heroin he hid in a bed where three small children slept.

State police said they arrested 27-year-old Zachary Monahan, a convicted felon, on Thursday just before 6 p.m.

They said they executed multiple search warrants at a home on Quaddick Road.

When troopers entered the home, they said they found 200 bags of suspected heroin that was pre-packaged and ready for sale. They said the street value was an estimated $1,600.

They said they also found four stolen firearms that were hidden throughout the property. The firearms were linked to several burglaries in the Thompson and Woodstock areas.

About $2,000 in cash and a digital scale were also seized.

Monahan was charged with possession of narcotics, operating a drug factory, risk of injury to a minor, receiving stolen property and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Troopers said the children in the home were between 1 and 9 years old. They said the children were sleeping not only in close proximity to the suspected drugs, but the firearms as well.

The Department of Children and Families responded to the scene and removed the children from the home.

Monahan is being held on $125,000 surety bond and is due in Danielson Superior Court on Friday.
