Man loses toes after walking barefoot on grass

A Texas man walked barefoot in the grass one day and cut his foot — and flesh eating bacteria invaded his body, causing him to lose all of the toes on his right foot.

According to ABC 7, 59-year-old Jon Oxley was taking a stroll outside of his house when he contracted Strep Pyogenes, a bacteria similar to the kind found in strep throat.

Doctors at West Houston Medical Center said his kidneys were failing and needed immediate surgery.

“Four surgeries later, Oxley lost all of his toes on his right foot,” ABC 7 reports.

By removing the toes, doctors saved the man’s leg.
