Man sets apartment on fire after being evicted

DURHAM, N.C. — Authorities in North Carolina say a Durham man is under arrest after he broke into an apartment he’d been evicted from and set it on fire.

Police told local news outlets that 28-year-old Johnathan Robert Warda turned himself in to authorities Saturday night on charges of burglary and first-degree arson.

Investigators say they think Warda broke into an apartment last week and set several fires inside it. The fires damaged the apartment but did not spread to other units.

Police say Warda had been evicted from the property several days earlier.

Warda was jailed on $250,000 bond. It wasn’t known if he had an attorney.
