Man with Alzheimer’s wandered Mojave for 3 days
An 86-year-old California man with Alzheimer’s disease is recovering but “doing pretty good” after he was lost in the Mojave Desert for nearly three days.
Rollande Ronnie” Towne was spending time with his family on vacation when he wandered off, ABC News reported. He wandered from their campsite Monday morning, his grandson said.
Towne told rescuers he didn’t remember his time in the desert, but he said he felt fine. “Well, I’m doing pretty good,” he said “I’ve got a few marks here and there, pretty decent actually.”
He was given water and oxygen and was transported to the hospital via helicopter. Officials said Towne survived plummeting temperatures at night and wildlife, specifying that they saw seven rattlesnakes in their search.
