Mascot signs with deaf child at baseball game
A minor league baseball mascot left the parents of a deaf child speechless when he surprisingly spoke to their son in the language he understands — sign language.
And the heartwarming moment was captured on camera.
“It was one of those moments in time where everything froze,” the boy’s father, Matt Samworth told WPTV. “To see the look on his face like someone actually understands me.”
The Samworth family was attending a Dayton Dragons baseball game on May 24 when they spotted the mascot, Heater, and their 7-year-old son, Hunter, asked if he could talk to the mascot.
“My wife told him in sign, ‘Tell Heater it’s nice to meet you,’” Matt told TODAY.com.
What happened next left them all in awe.
“So he walks up to Heater and signs that to him, and next thing you know, Heater signs back and just starts signing to him,” Matt said.
Matt recorded the moment with his son and the mascot and later posted it on YouTube.
According to TODAY.com, the man inside the mascot suit is currently studying to be a sign language interpreter.
