McCarran sparks international airport war on Twitter

Las Vegas is nothing if not good at promoting itself.
Usually it’s the @Vegas Twitter account getting attention for playing off current events, but McCarran decided on Friday to jump into the mix.
When the Salt Lake airport tweeted a photo of a Salt Lake City sunrise, it was almost begging for a challenge.
“Not many airports can compete with a view like ours at #SLC International! #SLCAirport,” @slcairport tweeted.
Airports Council International retweeted SLC, catching the eye of Brig Lawson at LVCVA. He alerted Chris Jones at McCarran, who responded with a photo of a plane taking off in front of Mandalay Bay, sparking an #AirportThrowdown. Airports from around the world tweeted their favorite pics from the runway (or at least in view of a plane).
“By day’s end it had spread as far as New Zealand,” Jones told the RJ. “Viral indeed, and hopefully everyone else had as much fun as we did.”
It seems they did. More than 500 photos have been tweeted using #AirportThrowdown in the past day, according to analytics service Topsy.
Sunsets are pretty, but how can anything beat fireworks over the Strip?
