Mom dies protecting baby from drunk, abusive husband

SMYRNA, Ga. — A young mother is being hailed as a hero after dying protecting her baby from her drunken husband.

According to wsbradio.com, Jessica Arrendale, 33, was chased upstairs in her home by her inebriated husband, 30-year old Antoine Davis. The former Marine who served in Iraq had a history of abusive behavior.

The woman tried to defend herself during the dispute with a baseball bat, but Davis turned it around on her, striking her several times.

Arrendale took her 6-month-old daughter in her arms and managed to lock herself in the bathroom. Sadly, the struggle ended in tragedy.

“Davis got his gun, an assault rifle outfitted with a suppressor,” wsbradio.com reports. “He burst into the bathroom and, while Arrendale was still holding Colbie in her arms, shot the young mother in the head.”

Davis then walked into another room and shot himself. Police believe the baby may have been struck in the head by the baseball bat during the incident.

“Colbie is still being treated at Children’s Health Care of Atlanta at Scottish Rite Hospital,” wsbradio.com writes.
