Mountain’s Edge plans event

For those who have attended Country in the Park at Mountain's Edge since the event debuted four years ago, one of the highlights of the festival has been the choreographed music and dance performances held in the community's Exploration Park located on Buffalo Drive.

The Fourth Annual Country in the Park is an outdoor country music festival that is free and open to the public held each year at Exploration Park located on Buffalo just south of Blue Diamond Road.

The event will return to Mountain's Edge May 8 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will include music and dance performances choreographed by Dreamhawk, the production company behind the past three years' productions. This year the featured production is called, "Sweetwater Saloon Show."

"We love to produce shows that incorporate audience interaction and this year's music and dance performance will get the audience engaged in what's sure to be another entertaining show," said Barry Smith, event producer and show director for Dreamhawk. "When people who attend this event feel like they're part of the show, rather than just an observer, the performers feed off of their energy and everyone has a great time."

Country in the Park will kick off at 11 a.m. with live entertainment provided by the Patty Janura Band, with intermittent performances from Dreamhawk's Country Line Dance Show sets at noon and 2 p.m. These interactive and instructional show sets will teach the audience the latest country line dancing styles found in country music dance halls.

After the last country line dance set, the Tony Marques Band will provide entertainment throughout the afternoon. In between sets, the featured production of the day, "The Sweetwater Saloon Show" will take center stage at 3:45 p.m. The show will have attendees join Ms. Lucy and Cletus at the Sweetwater Saloon, as they round up the cancan girls and the cowboys in the production of dance, comedy and romance.

For this year's show, Smith brought show director Scott Cook to write and direct, "The Sweetwater Saloon Show." Cook co-wrote last year's signature show, "Spirit of the Land."

In addition to the musical entertainment, the day long Country in the Park festival includes a bull's eye gallery, petting zoo, Western stunt area, pony rides, mining for gemstones, western bounce house and udder relay. There will also be the hip-a-dee hops relay, rodeo roper, the inflatable mountain and Western slide and mechanical bull.

KWNR New Country 95.5 FM will conduct a live, on-air broadcast with music and will give away tickets to several country concerts.

In addition, attendees can enjoy the park's amenities including wide open grassy spaces, volleyball courts, picnic areas and horseshoe pits. The park's attractions also include trails leading up to the top of Exploration Peak, the city's first mountain park.

The Western Theme Park blends the elements of community's natural geography and history. The goal was to create an Old West Village with dirt streets leading to play areas including an area featuring covered wagon play structures and a replica water tower splash park that incorporate spray jets.

Builders within in the master plan include: Amstar Homes, Beazer Homes, Camden Homes, Discovery Homes, Harmony Homes, KB Home, Lennar, Meritage Homes, Pardee Homes, Pulte Homes, Richmond American Homes, Ryland Homes and Storybook Homes.

Those looking to learn more about the homes offered within Mountain's Edge or the events planned throughout the year are invited to visit the development's Home Search Café, located at the community's entrance on Buffalo and Blue Diamond, or visit mountainsedge.com. The Café is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, and can be reached at 898-5777.
