Mountain’s Edge to add Nathaniel Jones Park

The latest addition to the Mountain's Edge master-planned community will be the new Nathaniel Jones Park. The 20-acre park follows the community's philosophy to offer outdoor recreation with a commitment to protecting the environment.

Construction crews will break ground in October with substantial completion scheduled for fall 2011.

"We're excited to add more recreational space and lifestyle amenities for residents," said Larry Bross, executive vice president of development for Focus Property Group, developer of Mountain's Edge.

Located in the northwestern part of Mountain's Edge, the park will include a lighted basketball court, tot lot with shade structure, children's water play area with splash pad, turf areas, walking trails and shade structures.

According to Bross, Mountain's Edge is the first master planned-community in Southern Nevada to embrace drought resistant measures from inception. The plants, shrubs, trees and ground covering are all drought tolerant, requiring minimal water to thrive, while still providing large shrub massing and color.

To honoring early Las Vegas Valley pioneers, the park is named for the supervisor of one of the region's first large-scale projects. Nathaniel Jones was sent by Brigham Young to oversee a mining operation in conjunction with the creation of a nearby Mormon outpost and fort in 1855.

Two upcoming Discovery Days events will be held at Exploration Park.
