Mountain’s Edge to host concerts

Mountain's Edge kicks off its first fall concert series in a few weeks, inviting residents and guests to enjoy live music under the stars. The first of three concerts will be held Sept. 8 with a performance at Exploration Park by the Bobby Morris Dixieland Jazz Band.

The series of concerts will be performed by local bands in the park's amphitheater. Hot dogs, hamburgers, nachos, cotton candy, snow cones, slushies and popcorn will be available for purchase. Each concert is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and last one hour.

"Mountain's Edge is always looking to create events for residents and guests that bring them out into the community in a way that is fun and meaningful," said Vicky Parris, community manager of the Mountain's Edge homeowners association. "We are certain our residents will truly enjoy these concerts since there's plenty of space on the park lawn for people to bring blankets or chairs to relax and enjoy the music under the stars."

The second concert in the series at Exploration Park will be a country-western night Sept. 22. The final concert in the series will be held Oct. 13 celebrating Oktoberfest with German folk music.

"Whether you like jazz, country or German-folk music or you enjoy the opportunity to discover new types of music, or just want to meet some of your neighbors, there is something for everyone to enjoy," Parris said. "In the future, depending on what our residents want to hear and see, we will bring in a variety of different music to help keep the format fresh and interesting."

The 80-acre Exploration Park officially opened in March and is the first of six parks planned for the master-planned community. The community's master planner, Focus Property Group, along with the Mountain's Edge homeowners association holds events at its parks and facilities throughout the year.

The community held National Night Out Aug. 7, an event designed to encourage residents to get to know their neighbors. The event was coupled with a movie in the park, "Yours, Mine and Ours."

In July, Exploration Park played host to a pancake breakfast to celebrate the Fourth of July holiday. Hundreds of revelers enjoyed pancakes, pastries, juices and coffee, as well as activities including a kids Ferris wheel and Uncle Sam balloon twister.

Additional activities have been planned for residents, including a 5-K race to benefit Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation to be held Sept. 15 and the Heart Walk to benefit the American Heart Association Oct. 13. The community also has plans for a fall festival and an event celebrating the winter holiday season.

Desert Demonstration Garden, which is located in the backyard of the community's Home Search Café, holds quarterly water-smart landscaping seminars to teach residents how to landscape their yards with materials that are desert adaptable. The next seminar is scheduled for Nov. 17.

Mountain's Edge's commitment to water conservation extends throughout the community's landscape and into design guidelines put into place by builders selling homes in the master plan. Those guidelines include the elimination of turf from the front yards of all homes throughout the community.

Mountain's Edge was certified by Robert Charles Lesser & Co., a leading real estate advisory firm, as the second fastest-selling U.S. master-planned community in 2006.

Builders with actively selling subdivisions are Amstar Homes, Avante Homes, Beazer Homes, D.R. Horton, Engle Homes, KB Home, Kimball Hill Homes, Lennar, Meritage Homes, Pardee Homes, Pulte Homes, R/S Development, Ryland Homes, Toll Brothers, Warmington Homes Nevada and Woodside Homes. Astoria Homes, Phillips Homes and StoryBook Homes are expected to begin sales in the coming months. For more information, visit focuspropertygroup.com.
