MUSIC: Jamie Foxx recalls memorable night in Vegas with Diana Ross
July 2, 2009 - 12:24 pm
Actor/comedian/musician Jamie Foxx kicks off a two-night stand at The Joint at the Hard Rock tomorrow night, and it will be a homecoming of sorts.
From 1995 to 2002, Foxx lived here in Vegas, up by Sunrise Mountain.
You can check out a full interview with Foxx in Friday’s Neon in the R-J, but in the meantime, here’s Foxx recounting a particularly memorable night in Sin City.
“I got a chance to see Diana Ross, on like a Tuesday, I think it was at the Aladdin. I’ll never forget it. I went with this girl, and there was a lot of my alternative lifestyles family there — I call gay people my family.
“And so the family was there, I’m with a young lady, and one of my family members was in the aisle. He had Diana Ross’ book. He was goin’ (in exaggerated lisp) ‘Work it, Ross. You better work, Ross.’ And the usher was just irritated. He finally went over to the guy, to touch the guy and tell him, ‘You need to get out the aisle.’
“But before he could put his hands on this guy, Diana Ross stopped her whole show and said, ‘Don’t you put your hands on him. As a matter of fact, if all of you are cool, everybody come to the front.’
“And there I was, me and the family and my girl. We had a ball.
“That’s my Vegas experience. A weekend in Vegas is always the greatest.”
