FLAG RETIREMENT CEREMONY
planned IN BOULDER CITY

The Valley of Fire Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution has scheduled its 19th annual Flag Retirement Ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Buchanan Blvd., Boulder City.

There is no charge to attend.

Anyone with old, tattered, dirty or unusable U.S. flags is welcome to bring them to the ceremony for retirement.

HENDERSON plans WATER SAFETY DAY

With May being National Water Safety Month, the city of Henderson’s Parks and Recreation Department plans to host a water safety day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Black Mountain Aquatic Complex, 599 Greenway Road. The event teaches parents how to protect their children in and around water.

Whole Foods Market
to host dog adoptions

Whole Foods Market at The District at Green Valley Ranch, 100 S. Green Valley Parkway, plans to host dog adoptions from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in conjunction with Foreclosed Upon Pets Inc., which rescues animals that have been abused and/or abandoned by their owners as a result of economic hardship, including home foreclosure, loss of employment, insufficient income or death or illness.

CASINO CELEBRATES ANNIVERSARY

Emerald Island Casino, 120 Market St., plans to celebrate its eighth anniversary Sunday.

HERITAGE PARADE WINNERS ANNOUNCED

The city of Henderson announced the winners of the April 16 Heritage Parade.

For best floats, The Journey Floats took first place, Desert Doxies of Las Vegas took second and the Monkey Gym took third. For marching groups, Basic High School’s band took first, Green Valley High School’s band took second, and Danza de Carriza took third.

For equestrian entries, Wells Fargo took first, and the Henderson Saddle Association took second.

For special interest vehicles, Tin Lizzies of Las Vegas took first, Mustang Club of Las Vegas took second and Military Order of the Purple Heart took third.

Baby boomers invited to free
financial planning workshop

HEAVEN CAN WAIT HOLDS FUNDRAISER

Heaven Can Wait Animal Society is scheduled to host its Gimme Shelter concert and fundraiser at 6 p.m. May 28 at The Village Lake Las Vegas, 30 Strada di Villaggio.

The event is set to feature performances from Arms of America, a U2 tribute band, and Skip Martin, a former lead singer of Kool and the Gang.
