Donations allow Adopt a Rescue Pet animal sanctuary to remain open

After weeks of seeking donations to cover a $70,000 debt, Adopt a Rescue Pet, 1500 E. Tropicana Ave., Suite 105, will be able to keep adoptable animals at its 5-acre Amargosa Valley property.

The $70,000 sum was to cover a balloon payment on the mortgage that was to be paid by a private grant. When that funding was no longer available, the nonprofit animal rescue organization sought donations and conducted creative fundraising to cover the cost.

As of midnight May 1 -- the deadline for the payment -- the remaining donations were gathered, and the property was saved, said Elizabeth Davis Rubin, founder and president of the organization.

Rubin said that although the payment is covered, residents are welcome to donate funds or supplies to the organization.

For more information, email arpinfo@adoptarescuepet.org or call 798-8663 or 883-0035.

To adopt a pet, visit PetSmart at 2140 N. Rainbow Blvd. from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday.
