ON THE BEAT: Disgusting or a new mating ritual?

When I’m at schools doing interviews or taking photos, sometimes I see things that make me laugh, touch my heart or make me cringe.

This week, I went to Centennial High School. Once inside the gates of the northwest-area campus, I saw a handful of students hanging out in the quad around 9 a.m., a time when most students are required to be in class.

I noticed a mixed group of boys and girls laughing and playing around and just as I looked over, a male student picked up a female student and placed her in a trash can. She laughed and managed to pull herself out of the top of the can. Things looked pretty cordial, so I’m assuming this might be some new form of flirtation? All I know is that that kind of gesture is just nasty. Who knows what’s in that receptacle? Boys, give a girl a flower or a smile and leave the trash cans for the trash.

Anyway, I don’t know why this occurs, and if someone does, drop me a line at lcarroll@viewnews.com.
