Rhodes’ Fun Zone to celebrate Fourth of July with a splash

Homeowners at Rhodes Ranch will celebrate Fourth of July with a tropical-themed celebration from 4 to 8 p.m., July 4.

The festivities will double as the grand-opening ceremony of the Fun Zone Water Park at the R-Club, according to Virginia Kaplan, program director for Rhodes Homes.

"We're having a catered tropical pool party," Kaplan said. "It will be a Jimmy Buffett-style event, but with non-alcoholic margaritas."

Kaplan said the Red Apple Grill will provide the meal. The menu features grilled chicken, barbecued pork ribs, corn on the cob, grilled pineapple, macaroni and cheese, hot dogs, and chips.

"Every resident will be able to enjoy free fun and entertainment, with a steel band playing Caribbean music, stilt walkers roaming the property, and both children and adults playing games," Kaplan said.

"We'll even be having limbo and Hula Hoop contests."

"We already had a soft opening for the Fun Zone Water Park, and people are using it a lot now that it's getting hot," Kaplan said. "This event should bring even more people out."

Included in the Fun Zone Water Park is a 13,000-square-foot lagoon pool, three speed slides, five kid slides, rope bridges, multiple squirt gun stations and a 1,000-gallon bucket that fills and tips over about every five minutes.

The adults will find a 25 meter lap pool, two eight-person spas, a 12-person group spa and four large covered cabanas.

The park also offers an exterior lighted basketball court, two sand volleyball courts, four lighted tennis courts and a children's playground with activity structures.

Inside the colorfully decorated recreation center, the R-Club, residents can lounge in the large atrium lobby next to the huge fireplace, take a variety of arts and crafts classes, or rent multi-purpose rooms for gatherings.

The recreation center features a game room with billiard tables and a ping pong table.

The fitness center offers a wide range of exercise classes, as well as racquetball courts, basketball courts and weight machines.

The R-Club offers a variety of programs and classes for children and adults, including community potluck dinners, arts and crafts lessons, shows, piano instruction, teen social events and safety training.

The center also puts on celebrations for every major holiday.
