Ripples from Ensign probe reach Connecticut

News of a new round of subpoenas in the investigations of Sen. John Ensign are creating ripples in Connecticut where political consultant Mike Slanker, a one-time Ensign associate from Las Vegas, is working on a high profile campaign.
Slanker is in the inner circle of Linda McMahon, the former chief executive officer of World Wrestling Entertainment who is running for Senate as a Republican.
At least one news outlet in Connecticut is pressing the McMahon campaign for information on Slanker's ties to the investigation.
As the story points out, Slanker has not been accused of wrongdoing. It has been reported that Slanker, after being approached by Ensign, took on Doug Hampton as an associate of his November Inc., consulting firm and tried to help Hampton obtain lobbying contacts, after Hampton and his wife Cindy left Ensign's employ in late April 2008.
Slanker told the New York Times in a story published last October that he was not told the real reason Ensign wanted to help Hampton, although he eventually became aware that Ensign had a relationship with Hampton's wife.
