Set in Newport, R.I., “Slow Dancing on Price's Pier” by Lisa Dale tells the story of a young woman named Thea Celik and her tumultuous relationship with the two handsome Sorensen brothers, Jonathan and Garret, and how a hasty decision she made years ago later leads to complications.
Thea was best friends with the two brothers when they were all in their teens. They did everything together, and when she learned of her parents' plan to move back to their home country of Turkey, she sought solace and refuge with their family.
Although Thea adores both brothers, it’s Garret she thinks about all the time. She soon finds that while he professes to love her, Garret loves the attention from other girls, which causes Thea to have doubts about him as well as their relationship.
One thing leads to another, and Thea finds herself married to Jonathan, splitting the Sorensen family in two for years.
Fifteen years later, Thea is the owner of her parent’s coffee shop, The Dancing Goat, and she and Jonathan have a 10-year-old daughter named Irina. She and Jonathan have drifted apart, and Thea is navigating through a divorce as she struggles to keep her life at peace while finding a balance between her business and her daughter.
Unfortunately, any peace she hopes to find is shattered when Garret returns home to Newport to restore his relationship with his brother and his family. His reappearance brings back all the memories of the past, and the more they try to keep a distance between each other, the more they are drawn together.
Thea doesn't want to let go of the Sorensens but if she and Garret get back together, it would tear the whole family apart and this time around there would be no turning back.
”Slow Dancing on Price's Pier” is a beautiful story of self-discovery, second chances and forgiveness. Dale’s gift for storytelling puts the reader right in the middle of the turmoil the characters are experiencing as they struggle to find their way back to love.
And not only is the story enthralling, Dale’s inclusion of coffee making history and her descriptions of coffee drinks gives this book a fascinating jolt that will endear her to coffee fans and readers alike.
