Shopkeeper catches baby falling from second story window

A shopkeeper is being hailed a hero after he caught a one-year-old child who had fallen from a second-story window in Xiaolan, China.

The child crawled out onto a window ledge looking for his mother during a rainstorm, according to news.com.au.

Several passers-by noticed the child, including the shopkeeper, identified by local media as Mr. Li, who at first tried to coax the child to go back inside. But then the child fell into Mr. Li’s arms.

“I didn’t think too much at the time, I was just afraid of failing to catch him,” Li said. “Some people put down cardboard to avoid serious injuries to the baby if I failed to catch him.”

Mr. Li and another man, identified as Mr. Hu, returned the child to its mother.

“It was nothing but human instinct to do so,” Mr. Hu said as reported by abc.net.au.

And nothing short of amazing.
