BRIDGE GROUP PLANNING FREE LESSONS

Las Vegas Bridge World is offering four weeks of free Easybridge! lessons. The lessons are set from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays beginning this week at Las Vegas Bridge World, 5580 W. Flamingo Road, Suite 101.

SOLARI HOSPICE SEEKING VOLUNTEERS

Solari Hospice Care, 5550 S. Jones Blvd., is looking for volunteers to aid with day-to-day operations and patient well-being. Volunteers bring companionship to people in the final months and weeks of life, often at a time when people find themselves cut off from the community, isolated and alone. They bring respite to family caregivers who are caring for dying loved ones. Sometimes volunteers share a special knowledge or hobby, such as speaking a second language or playing music. Solari also uses volunteers to answer phones, assist with receptionist duties or perform light secretarial work.

EASTER SEALS NEVADA RECEIVES GRANT

Easter Seals Nevada, the nonprofit that serves more than 8,000 Nevadans with disabilities every year, was awarded an $800,000 grant last month from Workforce Connections to build employment programming and help place individuals with disabilities and other barriers to employment back in the workforce.

Easter Seals Nevada strives to create solutions that help people with disabilities become self-sufficient through education, community partnerships and direct services. GIRLS DAY PLANNED AT BOYS & GIRLS CLUB

The 32nd annual Girls Day is planned from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Lied Boys & Girls Club, 2850 Lindell Road.

This fundraising event matches women from the business community with girls from single-parent disadvantaged homes for a day of fun, games, food and prizes. Various benefits come from a variety of donation levels. The participation fee for nonmembers is $50, and donations are accepted without participation. HELP STAMP OUT HUNGER IN SOUTHERN NEVADA

Help the Stamp Out Hunger in Southern Nevada effort by leaving a bag of non-perishable food items at your mailbox on Saturday for your letter carrier. Pre-packaged bags of non-perishable food can also be purchased at Albertsons Sav-on Pharmacy through Sunday, or shoppers can donate $1, $5 or $10 at the register. A “stamp” will be hung in honor of each donation.

TODAY is LAST DAY TO VOTE
FOR outstanding SENIOR VOLUNTEER

Today is the last day to vote for the Nevada’s Outstanding Senior Volunteer. The recognition is part of the Salute to Senior Service program, sponsored by Home Instead Inc., the franchisor of the Home Instead Senior Care network. The program honors the contributions of adults 65 or older who give at least 15 hours a month of volunteer service.

Home Instead Inc. will donate $500 to each of the state winners’ favorite nonprofit organizations, and their stories will be posted on the Salute to Senior Service Wall of Fame. In addition, $5,000 will be donated to the national winner’s nonprofit charity of choice.

BIRTHRIGHT ISRAEL TRIP TAKING REGISTRATION

Spots are available for this summer’s Nevada State Birthright Israel trip, a free trip to Israel for young Jewish adults sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Las Vegas and Taglit-Birthright Israel Foundation.

TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION SEEKS INPUT ON PROPOSED TRANSIT SERVICE CHANGES

The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada is seeking public input on proposed transit service changes scheduled to take effect starting July 7, pending community feedback.

Proposed changes to some routes include: increased frequencies, schedule and span of service adjustments in addition to modifications to the Boulder Highway Express, Henderson & Downtown Express, Route 212-Sunset Road and Route 402-Sunset/Boulder City. Also, boarding changes are proposed on the Sahara, Boulder Highway and Henderson & Downtown express routes. A full list of proposed changes is available at rtcsnv.com.

NV ENERGY TAKING APPLICATIONS
FOR SOLARGENERATIONS PROGRAM

NV Energy’s SolarGenerations program is accepting applications for the next round of solar energy projects through 5 p.m. May 17.

Successful applicants will be eligible for rebates to help offset their installation costs for photovoltaic panels that convert sunlight into electricity.

Residential customers and small businesses are eligible. Participants must be NV Energy electric customers.

At the close of the application period, if any category is oversubscribed, participants will be chosen by a lottery conducted by a third party.

Rebates for the next round of projects range from $1.25 to $1.35 per watt for residential customers and small businesses and from $2.80 to $3.10 per watt for schools and public buildings. For program and allocation details, visit nvenergy.com/renewablesenvironment/renewablegenerations.

THEATER ANNOUNCES CLASSES FOR YOUTHS

The nonprofit and nonprofessional Las Vegas Little Theatre has announced its LVLT Summer Youth Theatre Academy. Weekly classes for students ages 7 to 13 are set to start in June. Students may register for one or more sessions to gain hands-on experience in one or more facets of theater and acting. Each week is to end with a performance by the students in the LVLT Black Box theater.

Classes are set from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday on the following topics:

-- June 17-21: Improvisation: Whose Line Is It Anyway?

-- June 24-28: Theater 101: There is No Business like Show Business!

-- July 8-12: Musical Theater: Triple Threat Theater

-- July 15-19: Comedy: Make ’Em Laugh

-- July 22-26: Drama: Why the Long Face?

-- July 29-Aug. 2: Mystery: Who Done It?

-- An Audition Workshop is planned for July 1-3 and is open to students ages 7 to 18.

The LVLT Summer Youth Academy is conducted by Emily Fagan, a certified speech, theater and English teacher. Classes are $250 per week for each student; three weeks are $350; and all six weeks (excludes audition workshop) are $1,300. The three-day workshop is $150 per student.

RUNNING SPONSORSHIP CAMPAIGN

Nonprofit It’s All About Kidz launched a sponsorship campaign calling for any company, organization or individual to sponsor a mother and child who is enrolled in the sober living program. The southwest-area group focuses on providing a sober living environment to women and their children while providing services for them to become self-sufficient. The nonprofit also serves as a foster care agency to provide temporary living arrangements for children.
