HUMANA PLANS EVENT FOR VETERANS FRIDAY
The Humana Guidance Center at 8975 W. Charleston Blvd, Suite 100, plans to host an open house for veterans and their families from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.
Veterans' service organizations and guest speakers are planned, and veterans can learn about job opportunities at Humana and about health care and finanical protection products.

STAR PARTY SET FOR SATURDAY AT SPRING MOUNTAIN RANCH STATE PARK
An Astronomy in the Park Star Party is planned for 6 p.m. Saturday at Spring Mountain Ranch State Park, 6375 state Route 159 near Blue Diamond.
The evening is scheduled to begin with views of the moon just after sunset, followed by deep-sky viewing of galaxies, nebulae and star clusters.
The free event is sponsored by the Las Vegas Astronomical Society. Access to video-assisted viewing of the night sky is available for those in wheelchairs.

DURANGO HILLS COMMUNITY CENTER YMCA OFFERS SUMMER PASS
The city of Las Vegas' Durango Hills Community Center YMCA, 3521 N. Durango Drive, is offering its Sizzlin' Summer Pass for $112 for individuals and $215 for families.
The pass is good for four months from the date of purchase and can be purchased at the YMCA through July 31.
Also, the YMCA is offering summer camps for children 5 to 15 June 11 through Aug. 24. Camp hours are 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Registration is open for traditional and specialty camps. Sibling discounts, special offers and financial assistance are available.

POOL MEMBERSHIPS AVAILABLE AT JW MARRIOTT
Las Vegas locals can enjoy the 11,000-square-foot pool at the JW Marriott, 221 N. Rampart Blvd., by purchasing a monthly or seasonal pool membership.
Individual memberships are $100 a month or $300 for the season. Family memberships are $600 a month or $1,800 for the season. There are two family membership packages offered: two adults and up to three children or one adult and up to four children.

SUMMERLIN COUPLE WIN LANDSCAPE AWARD
Summerlin residents Sandy and Jim Low's colorful, water-efficient landscape earned them the Southern Nevada Water Authority's Yard of the Month designation for April.
The competition recognizes visually appealing, functional landscapes that include a variety of water-efficient plants, trees and shrubs. Property owners may enter their own landscapes or those of friends, neighbors or strangers at snwa.com.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR LIONS' FOOT-SCREENING PROGRAM
The LEAP Alliance, the Southern Nevada Health District and the Las Vegas Summerlin Lions Club plan to launch Train the Lion Trainer at 5 p.m. June 6 at TPC Golf Club Grille, 9851 Canyon Run Drive.
The event will kick off a major expansion of the Lions' Hunt for Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy (DPN) free foot-screening program for those at risk. DPN is often experienced by those who are diabetic. Training will be provided to become certified as a screener through the LEAP Alliance.
A pilot DPN foot-screening program was conducted on a small scale during the last three years at community health fairs and wellness events in the Las Vegas and Henderson areas. LEAP is stepping up that program and needs more volunteers.

DRAMA KIDS TO PERFORM AT SUMMERLIN LIBRARY AND PERFORMING ARTS CENTER
Drama Kids of Las Vegas, the local branch of the Drama Kids International program, is set to perform original productions at the Summerlin Library and Performing Arts Center, 1771 Inner Circle, for the fourth year.
More than 30 groups of Las Vegas children will be led by former Clark County School District teacher Tina Nowak. Performances are scheduled to run through Thursday.

FUTURE SMILES PROGRAM PLANS COCKTAIL RECEPTION FUNDRAISER
Future Smiles plans to host a fundraising cocktail reception from 6 to 8 p.m. June 1 at the Flamingo, 3555 Las Vegas Blvd. South.
A lottery-style silent auction is planned, along with a no-host bar and appetizers.
It is sponsored by the Nevada Dental Hygienists' Association. Since 2009, Future Smiles has provided school-based oral health care to at-risk children and their families through several community partnerships.
Tickets are $10 for association members and $20 for nonmembers. Tickets can be purchased at the door or at nvdha.org.
FREEDOM FOR WILD HORSES GOLF TOURNAMENT SET FOR JUNE 7
The fourth annual Freedom for Wild Horses Golf Tournament is slated for June 7 at the Palm Valley Golf Course, 9201 Del Webb Blvd.
Cost for a foursome is $400, and sponsorships range from $750 to $5,000. Proceeds will benefit Horses4Heroes' StayStrong program, helping teens and adults in crisis, including Wounded Warriors and returning combat veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS PLAN SKILL CLINICS AT 24 HOUR FITNESS
Skill clinics with the Harlem Globetrotters comedy basketball team are planned from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 2 to 5 p.m. June 25-27 at 24 Hour Fitness, 2090 Village Center Circle.
Participants 6 to 14 are invited to learn about the importance of staying active and eating healthy, as well as seeing the Globetrotters' basketball skills and tricks.

GRIEF CAMP COMING JULY 20-22 TO LOVELL CANYON
Camp Mariposa, a grief camp, is scheduled for July 20-22 at Camp Potosi in Lovell Canyon southwest of Red Rock Canyon.
The camp is accepting applications from children 7 to 12 who have lost a loved one.
It is partially funded through grants from Cox Communications and Speedway Children's Charities. There is no cost to families of accepted campers. A $25 refundable deposit is requested with the application in order to reserve a space. Reservations should be received by June 22.
