WALGREENS COLLECTING DONATIONS FOR AFAN THROUGH MARCH
Las Vegas Valley Walgreens locations are collecting donations at its checkouts through March to support Aid for AIDS of Nevada’s 25th annual AIDS Walk, set for April 19 at Town Square Las Vegas, 6605 Las Vegas Blvd. South.
The walk is AFAN’s largest fundraising event, and Penn & Teller have again signed on as grand marshals and leaders of the Penn & Teller Challenge AIDS Walk Team. Registration to walk is free for all ages. A minimum donation of $25 per person is encouraged in celebration of the 25th anniversary and includes an official AIDS Walk commemorative item.

NOMINATIONS BEING TAKEN FOR CAI AWARD
Community Associations Institute’s Nevada Chapter, an educational organization representing homeowners associations, community managers and industry partners statewide, announces that it is accepting nominations for individuals and charities statewide. Formerly known as the Annual Hero’s Luncheon, it was redeveloped in 2012 to honor small charitable organizations that make a difference and are original to Nevada.

Winners are set to be honored during the chapter luncheon Sept. 8 at the Gold Coast, 4000 W. Flamingo Road.

LIFE TIME FITNESS TO HOST KIDS SUMMER CAMP
Life Time Fitness plans to host a kids summer camp at its Summerlin facility, 10721 W. Charleston Blvd.
Registration is being accepted at both its valley locations (the other is in Henderson at 121 Carnegie St.) for June 8 through Aug. 21. The camp is available to children ages 5 to 13 whose parents are members.
Life Time campers will experience 12 weeks of camp, each with its own theme, along with field trips and daily activities such as rock climbing, swimming, arts and crafts and team sports.
Signature camps will be offered at both locations from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Monday through Friday, priced at $210 per week or $50 per day. Specialty camps, designed for specific skills or demographics, also will be offered between June 15 and Aug. 14. Prices range from $100 to $270, with times and dates varying by location and respective camp.

FLAG FOOTBALL LEAGUE TAKING REGISTRATION
A flag football league for boys and girls ages 6 to 14 is taking registration for its Pee Wee (ages 6 to 8), Juniors (9 to 11) and Seniors (12 to 14) divisions.
The season is set to run through May 9. The top eight teams will continue on to a citywide championship tournament to be played May 18-21 at All American Park, 1551 S. Buffalo Drive. Fees are $85 per child, and uniforms are included. Awards and trophies will be handed out at the end of the season, and a playoff tournament is planned.

RAINBOW YOUTH SOCCER LEAGUE TAKING SIGNUPS
Rainbow Youth Soccer League signups are planned from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at the Desert Breeze Soccer Complex snack bar, 8275 Spring Mountain Road.
To sign up, participants should bring a copy of their birth certificate, a wallet-size photo and $125 in cash, check or money order. The fee includes 10 games, a picture plaque and a uniform.

NEIGHBORHOOD PARTNERS FUND PLANS APPLICATION WORKSHOP
The 18th annual Neighborhood Partners Fund plans to host an application process workshop from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. March 25 in classroom four at the Veterans Memorial Leisure Services Center, 101 N. Pavilion Center Drive.
The event offers registered city of Las Vegas neighborhood associations the opportunity to apply for a maximum of $5,000 to help improve the quality of their neighborhoods. There is $55,000 available for neighborhood grants this year. The deadline for applications is April 16.
Landscaping projects, senior citizen home safety programs, mural projects or other proposals related to community improvement are types of neighborhood improvement projects that may qualify. The program requires neighborhood associations to match the city’s grant with cash, volunteer time or in-kind services and goods donated to the project. Projects are required to take place within city limits and neighborhood boundaries and must include direct resident involvement in all phases.
Applicants are encouraged to register and attend a workshop to learn about the program and the automated method of applying for the grant. Applicants will use ZoomGrants to submit applications. No paper applications will be accepted.

ADAPTIVE RECREATION PROGRAM TAKING REGISTRATION
The Beyond Recreation Program, for those ages 7 to 21 with disabilities, is planned from 1:30 to 6 p.m. daily Monday through Friday through June 8 at the Veterans Memorial Leisure Services Center, 101 N. Pavilion Center Drive.
Formerly known as the Lorenzi Adaptive Recreation Program, the Beyond Recreation Program provides recreational opportunities for youths with disabilities at two locations. Participants can enjoy a new recreation experience every week, including community outings, sports, games, arts and crafts, swimming and movies.
The program will be closed on holidays and March 30-April 3. The cost is $27 for one to three days, $36 for four days and $45 for five days.

HONOR FLIGHTS SEEKING WWII VETERANS FOR FREE TRIPS
The nonprofit Honor Flights Southern Nevada is seeking World War II veterans to honor by providing them with a free trip to Washington, D.C., to visit the National World War II Memorial. The memorial was not completed until 2004, when many of these veterans were already in their 80s. But through Honor Flights, they get the chance to visit it, even if they need assistance getting around.
Honor Flights offers an organized, all-expenses-paid, escorted three-day trip to the memorials dedicated to veterans’ sacrifices. Guardians are required to pay their own way.

WET’N’WILD LAS VEGAS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS
Wet’n’Wild Las Vegas, 7055 S. Fort Apache Road, has started the hiring process for more than 450 seasonal jobs. The water park is set to be open from April to September.
Seasonal positions available include lifeguards, admissions, guest services, emergency medical technicians, maintenance, food and beverage, retail, operations and security. Several seasonal supervisory positions also are available.
Applicants should begin the employment process at wetnwildlasvegas.com and click on “Employment” at the bottom of the page. The management team will review applications and contact selected applicants for interviews.
The minimum age requirement for employment is 16 at the time the park opens or 18, depending on the position. Detailed job descriptions and application instructions are available on the website.
NOMINATIONS SOUGHT FOR SENIOR CITIZEN OF THE YEAR
Nominations are being sought for Nevada’s Senior Citizen of the Year. Anyone 60 or older who has lived in Nevada for at least five years is eligible to be nominated.
The National Silver Haired Congress Nevada Delegation, in partnership with the Aging Services Directors Organization, established the award in 2013. Las Vegas resident Raymonde Fiol, 77, was the 2014 recipient.

MOJAVE MAX WATCH UNDERWAY AT RED ROCK CANYON
Although Mojave Max is still in brumation, the public is welcome to visit the desert tortoise in his habitat at the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area Visitor Center and join the Mojave Max watch between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. daily. A special display has been set up where everyone can participate in predicting the time and date when Mojave Max will emerge from his burrow.
Clark County and partners host the annual Mojave Max Emergence Contest, education programs and school assemblies in support of Mojave Desert environmental education.
