Summerlin plans 2013 development
The master-planned community of Summerlin is ushering in 2013 with big plans.
"We have a full schedule of residential, retail and recreational development in Summerlin," said Kevin Orrock, president of Summerlin and executive vice president of master-planned communities for The Howard Hughes Corp.
"Valley residents have much to look forward to this year, as development activity is under way on several of Summerlin's most exciting projects to date."
Several neighborhoods bringing dozens of new-home floor plans are scheduled to open throughout the year in Summerlin's most western and southern villages.
This is in addition to Summerlin's existing 14 actively selling neighborhoods.
Combined, the 20-plus neighborhoods will offer prospective homebuyers more than 75 home floor plans ranging from 1,450 to nearly 6,000 square feet priced starting in the $200,000s.
■ The Paseos, a mission/hacienda-inspired village near Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, will open five new neighborhoods by Woodside Homes, Toll Brothers and Lennar.
The neighborhoods will feature one- and two-story single family homes ranging from 2,000 to 4,000 square feet.
The village is home to The Paseos Park, a popular 12.5-acre park that has soccer/T-ball fields, a sand volleyball and basketball courts, a tot lot and interactive water feature.
The park is easily accessible via a linear trail system that runs the width of the village.
Significant infrastructure work is planned in the northern section of The Paseos village in preparation for several additional neighborhoods, an extended trail system and another park.
■ Three additional neighborhoods are set to open in Summerlin's most southern village developed to date, The Mesa, a 500-acre desert contemporary village at the base of the Spring Mountains.
The homes include two-story single family homes by Woodside Homes, KB Home and Ryland Homes that range from 1,850 to 2,500 square feet.
The Mesa village is home to Summerlin's newest community park, The Mesa Park, a 19-acre park which has three Little League baseball fields, tennis and basketball courts, a tot lot and open lawn areas.
It is adjacent to the 35-acre Bishop Gorman High School, a private co-ed Catholic college preparatory school with a nearly 60-year history.
■ Construction activity will start on Summerlin's most exciting retail project, The Shops at Summerlin. The 1.5-million-square-foot regional retail center in Summerlin Centre is scheduled for a late 2014 opening.
The center will house more than 125 shops with multiple anchor tenants including Macy's and Dillard's.
■ Adding to Summerlin's already impressive list of recreational offerings is Wet n' Wild Las Vegas, a 41-acre water park, with 25 water slides. The project, located in Summerlin South, is scheduled to open in the spring of 2013.
"The construction activity in Summerlin West and Summerlin South will extend Summerlin's footprint in Las Vegas - a tradition that will continue for years to come, given Summerlin's remaining 6,600 acres," Orrock said. "Several of our best projects are on the horizon. There's never been a better time to be in Summerlin."
Summerlin began to take shape in 1990 and has ranked among the country's Top 10 best-selling master-planned communities for nearly two decades.
Located along the western rim of the Las Vegas Valley, Summerlin encompasses 22,500 acres with about 6,600 acres remaining to accommodate future growth within the master plan.
The community is home to more than 100,000 residents.
Amenities include more than 150 neighborhood and village parks, more than 150 completed miles of the Summerlin Trail System, 26 public and private schools, 14 houses of worship, nine golf courses, shopping centers, medical and cultural facilities and business parks.
