Summerlin’s Star-Spangled Celebration

For the first time, a sitting governor participated in Summerlin's Fourth of July parade. Gov. Brian Sandoval and his youngest daughter, Marisa, lead the 19th annual Summerlin Council Patriotic Parade in a convertible sponsored by Summerlin and The Howard Hughes Corp.

Madagascar's Big Top Circus, sponsored by Community Ambulance, was one of a dozen floats to feature children's favorite TV, movie and storybook characters. The parade was organized by The Summerlin Council, the Summerlin Community Association's nonprofit organization that organizes events and activities for community residents.

Since the parade's inception, Summerlin children have decorated their bikes in stars and stripes to lead the annual event. They now participate as the Patriotic Peddlers, helping kick off the escort division.

Festively dressed members of the Philippine American Association of Summerlin walk in the parade to celebrate Independence Day, which also signifies the Philippines' independence granted by America on July 4, 1946.
