TRAVEL CLUB TO MEET AT TAP HOUSE TODAY
The Las Vegas Singles Travel and Social Club invites mature adults to its meetings, which are scheduled for 7 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of the month at the Tap House, 5589 W. Charleston Blvd. The next meeting is set for today.
The meet-and-greet portion is set to start at 6:30 p.m. in the meeting room. Discussions focus on day trips, local events, in-state and out-of-state traveling, cruises and international traveling. A guest speaker frequently is featured. The meeting closes at about 8:30 p.m., when appetizers are served. A small fee covers refreshments and the cost of the meeting room. SEMINAR TO COVER NEVADA ASSET PROTECTION TRUSTS
The Nevada Trust Company and the Marquis Aurbach Coffing law firm plan to host a free seminar, Nevada Asset Protection Trusts, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the law firm’s headquarters, 10001 Park Run Drive. Complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres will be served at 5:30 p.m. Participants will learn how to protect their family assets against a variety of threats. Nevada laws are unique in that a trust established in Nevada protects its assets from any challenge, including a lawsuit or a tax lien. If a family transfers assets into the trust and is later successfully sued, the assets in the trust are beyond the reach of legal seizure.

DJS FOR PJS TO HOST PAJAMA DRIVE FRIDAY
The 11th annual DJS for PJS event is scheduled for 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday. The daylong event is designed to collect new pajamas for children in crisis and benefits charities throughout the Las Vegas Valley.
Local disc jockeys will encourage corporate and individual donations by broadcasting on-site from four Kohl’s stores: in the Summerlin area at 8671 W. Charleston Blvd.; in Centennial Hills at 6700 N. Durango Drive; in southwest Las Vegas at 4250 Blue Diamond Road; and in Henderson at 30 N. Valle Verde Drive.
The aim is to collect 8,000 pairs of pajamas.

YMCA PLANS HEALTHY KIDS DAY SATURDAY AT ALL LOCATIONS
The YMCA of Southern Nevada plans to host Healthy Kids Day from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at all four locations, including the city of Las Vegas’ Durango Hills Community Center, 3521 N. Durango Drive.
This is a free event to help children and families get a jump on summer. Attendees can participate in games, receive wellness screenings and participate in physical activity demonstrations. This year the event is launching a national childhood fitness and wellness program called CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Child Health) to combat childhood obesity.

NATHAN ADELSON HOSPICE PLANS BUTTERFLY RELEASE AT SYMPHONY PARK
Nathan Adelson Hospice plans to host its annual Butterfly Release May 5 at Symphony Park, 361 Symphony Park Ave., with a ceremony starting at 2 p.m. and the release of the butterflies at 2:30 p.m. The event will consist of a nondenominational dedication, followed by the release of live butterflies in honor and/or memory of loved ones.

ART CONTEST TO TAKE SUBMISSIONS
Each year the city of Las Vegas Arts Commission and the city of Las Vegas sponsor the Celebrating Life! fine arts competition for artists 50 or older in Clark, Esmeralda, Lincoln, Mineral and Nye counties. Entries for the 13th annual juried event are being accepted from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and Wednesday at the Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 S. Brush St. There is no fee to enter.
Artists may enter original works in the following fine art media categories: drawing and pastel, mixed media, painting, sculpture and ceramics, watercolor and gouache; and photography.
Only one work per artist may be submitted.
A public reception and awards ceremony is scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. May 24 at the Charleston Heights Arts Center. The exhibition is slated be displayed there May 24-July 13.

VONS ACCEPTING EASTER SEALS DONATIONS
Each year, Vons dedicates April to its Support for People with Disabilities fundraising campaign to benefit Easter Seals, the Special Olympics and an array of organizations that help people with disabilities live fuller, more independent lives.
Through April 30, all Las Vegas Valley Vons stores will accept donations at the checkouts to benefit Easter Seals Nevada. Ninety cents of each dollar raised will directly support individuals served by the organization.
Vons has raised and donated more than $130 million to support organizations such as Easter Seals, the Special Olympics and a range of other organizations that assist people with special needs.
Easter Seals Nevada is one of Nevada’s largest community disability agencies, serving more than 7,000 people with disabilities and their families each year.

SHRINERS HOSPITALS FOR CHILDREN OPEN SEEKS TOURNAMENT VOLUNTEERS
Registration is now open to volunteer for the 2013 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open golf tournament, scheduled for Oct. 14-20 at TPC Summerlin, 1700 Village Circle Drive.
Offering a chance for golf fans to go inside the ropes, volunteer opportunities include admissions, standard bearers, caddie services, walking scorers and more.
Interested participants can take advantage of a $55 registration fee until May 1, when fees will increase by $5. With the registration fee, volunteers also receive an invitation to the Volunteer Appreciation Party, a weeklong tournament access badge, a commemorative gift and a uniform, including a tournament golf shirt, a jacket and a hat.

The Women’s Club of Summerlin is taking applications through May 16 for its Dare To Dream grant program. Grants of up to $3,000 are offered to women who need assistance with educational opportunities, learning new skills or endeavoring to improve their lives in a responsible manner. ARTIST’S PAINTING TO BE AUCTIONED TO HELP FORMER SHOWGIRL
In honor of the show’s 11th anniversary, “X Burlesque” plans to auction an original painting of the X Girls by Henderson artist Terry Ritter. All proceeds will be donated to Shellee Renee, a former Las Vegas showgirl who is recovering from breast cancer.
A silent auction of the painting is scheduled for Wednesday. A copy of the original work is expected to remain on display in the X Showroom at the Flamingo, 3555 Las Vegas Blvd. South.
