CYCLISTS FROM JOURNEY OF HOPE TO ROLL THROUGH LAS VEGAS JUNE 19 AND 20

A team of 36 cyclists participating in Journey of Hope, presented by KRG Capital, plans to visit Las Vegas June 19 and 20 as a stop on their 4,000-mile cycling event across the country to raise funds and awareness for people with disabilities.

The southern route team is slated to arrive about noon June 19 at the Veterans Memorial Leisure Services Center, 101 N. Pavilion Center Drive.

City of Las Vegas representatives are set to present a proclamation from Mayor Carolyn Goodman proclaiming June 19 as PUSH America Day. Team members will participate in a wheelchair basketball demonstration with local athletes, present a disability-awareness puppet show and make a bicycle safety presentation. That evening they are slated go bowling at the Santa Fe Station with participants in the city’s Adaptive Recreation program and then spend Thursday at Wet ‘n’ Wild water park with Lorenzi Adaptive Program summer campers.

This year’s Journey of Hope is on target to raise more than $500,000 on behalf of people with disabilities. For more information, visit pushamerica.org.

TIVOLI VILLAGE TO HOST PET ADOPTIONS

Pet adoptions are slated from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 23 in front of Shaggy Chic at Tivoli Village, 302 S. Rampart Blvd. Animals will be on display and available for adoption.

CONSTRUCTION PLANNED AT THE VISTAS COMMUNITY CENTER AND POOL

According to the Summerlin Council, The Howard Hughes Corp. has announced the retooling of construction plans for The Vistas Community Center and Pool. Summerlin South and Summerlin West are expanding at a promising pace, officials said, spurring the need for the complex. Plans are being redrawn, permits will be pulled, and construction is being planned. The facility is expected to be open in 2015.

TRAVEL CLUB TO MEET AT TAP HOUSE

The Las Vegas Singles Travel and Social Club invites mature adults to its meetings, which are scheduled for 7 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of the month at the Tap House, 5589 W. Charleston Blvd. The next one is scheduled for June 25.

The meet-and-greet portion is set to start at 6:30 p.m. in the meeting room. Discussions focus on day trips, local events, in-state and out-of-state traveling, cruises and international traveling. A guest speaker frequently is featured. The meeting closes at about 8:30 p.m., when appetizers are served. A small fee covers refreshments and the cost of the meeting room. CHILDREN’S HEART FOUNDATION PLANS
CAMP MEND-A-HEART FOR JUNE 23-27

The Children’s Heart Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for Nevada children with heart problems, plans its ninth annual Camp Mend-a-Heart at Rapport Executive Ranch in Alamo. The camp is scheduled for June 23-27.

Camp Mend-a-Heart is a cost-free, medically supervised camp with camp activities such as crafts, water fun, hiking, obstacle courses and some “hanging out” time. Two sessions are planned, one for ages 13-18 and another for those 7-12.

HELP OF SOUTHERN NEVADA LAUNCHES BOTTLED WATER PROGRAM FOR HOMELESS

HELP of Southern Nevada invites the community to be part of its HELP2O campaign, which donates bottled water to the homeless.

Patrons can donate water at any Las Vegas-area Whole Foods Market through Aug. 31. For every bottle of Real Water brand purchased at Whole Foods Market during the campaign, the Nevada-based Real Water company will donate a bottle of Real Water.

Collection points for donated water include: Whole Foods Fort Apache, 8855 W. Charleston Blvd.; Whole Foods Tenaya, 7250 W. Lake Mead Blvd.; Whole Foods Town Square, 6689 Las Vegas Blvd. South; and Whole Foods Henderson, 100 S. Green Valley Parkway.

Bottled water donations can be purchased in the store and donated or purchased elsewhere and dropped off. The water will be collected on a regular basis and distributed to area homeless.

Additionally, monetary donations can be made with HELP of Southern Nevada change jars at all four Whole Foods Market locations or by submitting a donation through the nonprofit’s website, helpsonv.org.
